Plone wins 2008 Best Other Open Source CMS

Packt publishing was delighted to exclusively reveal the first category winner of the 2008 Open Source CMS Award as Plone.

Competition amongst Content Management Systems that aren’t based on PHP/MySQL was a lot closer this year, with strong support for a wider range of CMS's noted during the voting stage. This made the judging more open with each CMS that made the final receiving praise from the judges. However following input from the four judges’ and also the result of the public vote, Plone came out on top.

"Plone is honored to be selected as "Best Other Open Source CMS" for 2008" said Alexander Limi, Plone's co-founder.  "We're very proud of all the work the Plone community has put into making Plone powerful, easy-to-use and well documented, and we deeply appreciate Packt's strong commitment to open source software."

The judges were particularly complimentary about Plone’s extensible platform and level of support for non functional requirements. The judges liked how the development team had spent time making sure that the average user can get Plone up and running quickly and easily. There was particular praise for the ecosystem that is developing around Python and Zope is encouraging. "With Google's App Engine offering Python support, I felt that it is possible to very quickly have a cloud-based Plone implementation in place, and that could really spur its adoption" noted one judge.
